Review: Illicit Love – Jane Lark

I am delighted to be taking part in the Reading Addiction book tour for Illicit Love by Jane Lark today.

Ellen Harding, mistress to her cruel keeper, feels empty and alone. Will the arrival and forbidden love to Edward make her come alive again or will her past secrets catch up with her?

What a brilliant read!! Jane Lark has an incredible talent to draw the reader in from the first page onwards. It usually always takes me a while to get used to a book and to get to know its characters, but Illicit Love captured me immediately.

I straight away warmed to Ellen. She has gone through so much and deserves a bit of true happiness. I felt for her throughout the whole book. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for her to have lived in this era. The male lead of the book, Edward, is amazingly well characterised – what a man :-)!

I loved that this book strikes the perfect balance between the historical and romantic aspects. There are a lot of historical romance books that in my opinion concentrate too much on history (which I am not a huge fan of) but not enough on the emotional side (which I find so appealing in a book).

For me, this book has a Romeo and Juliet (which I love) type of feel. It is a display of raw emotion, drama and intimacy.

I would like to thank the publisher for sending me an ecopy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

My rating: 5 out of 5

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Illicit Love, Heidi, I’m really glad you enjoyed it so much, there is nothing more heart warming to an author than to hear their book has been received in the context it was meant, I’m really glad both Edward and Ellen have came across to you as intended, wonderful, thank you!! And I deliberately sought to tamp the history down so it doesn’t distract from the story, so, again, I’m really glad to hear this has been effective. It’s great to hear your view, and again, thank you for taking the time to read and review Illicit Love, I really appreciate this, as it is always the readers opinion which is the most valuable thing.
