About the book
Skylar Tempest has never understood Alec Hunter’s appeal. So what if he’s a world-renowned historian? He’s also cynical, aloof and determined to think the worst of her. So when a twist of fate finds her spending the lead-up to Christmas with Alec and his family, she’s not expecting the season to be either merry or bright.
Alec has learned the hard way not to trust beautiful women―and Skylar is the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. But as he watches her throw herself into his family’s festive chaos, Alec realises there is far more to this blonde bombshell than meets the eye.
With Christmas around the corner, Alec and Skylar return to Puffin Island, a tentative bond forged between them. Neither intends to fall in love but as the nights become darker, and the fire between them grows hotter, could this be the chance for Alec and Skylar to find their own happy ending?
My thoughts on the book
Christmas Ever After is probably my most favourite festive read yet. I loved everything about this novel. I’ve read a few of Sarah’s books before and really enjoyed them, but this particular one, is in my opinion, her best.
Apart from a group of mutual friends, Skylar and Alec seem to have nothing in common. In fact, they never liked each other much and Alec only attends Skylar’s jewellery exhibition, because their friends have asked him to keep an eye on her. Certain circumstances bring these two closer together and Skylar and Alec are “forced” to spend the days leading up to Christmas together.
Apart from the plot of this book which I really enjoyed, I loved the wintry and magical setting of Christmas Ever After. Alec takes Skylar home to his parents who live in the most wonderful cottage in the English countryside. I immediately fell in love with Alec’s family. His mother is portrayed in such a kind, generous and truly lovely way. She reminded me very much of my own mother. The author really has an incredible talent to create the most wonderful character cast for her books.
The second half of the book plays on Puffin Island, an idyllic island in Maine. Puffin Island already featured in Sarah’s previous books and I thought it was a stunning setting in summer, but “being there” in winter was even more beautiful!
Christmas Ever After ticked all the right boxes for me and was the perfect novel to indulge in and to forget all about the last-minute, manic Christmas shopping stress.
